Russian national airline Aeroflot has announced the cancellation of numerous flights from Moscow amid a major cybersecurity breach. The airline cited a cyberattack on its internal systems as the cause for the widespread disruptions, forcing the suspension of multiple flight operations and affecting thousands of passengers. Aeroflot has not yet specified the duration of the disruptions but indicated that efforts are underway to restore normal services.

The cyberattack has been claimed by a Belarusian opposition group known as “Cyberpartisans,” which has previously been involved in hacking activities targeting government and corporate entities in the region. The group issued a statement asserting responsibility for the attack, describing it as a protest against what they termed authoritarian crackdown and suppression within Belarus and beyond.

In response to the incident, Aeroflot’s stock price has taken a notable hit, with shares falling sharply on the Moscow Exchange. The decline reflects investor concerns over the extent of the damage, potential financial losses, and the long-term impact on the airline’s reputation. The company’s leadership has promised to investigate the breach thoroughly and implement additional cybersecurity measures to prevent future incidents.

The incident underscores the growing threat of cyberattacks on critical infrastructure and major corporations, especially amid escalating regional tensions. Authorities and cybersecurity experts are now closely monitoring the situation as Aeroflot works to mitigate the impact of the attack and restore operations.
