Gaza and the West Bank continue to be areas of ongoing contention in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel has maintained control over the West Bank since 1967, while in 2005, Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza, aiming to give Palestinians greater self-governance in that territory.

Despite this withdrawal, tensions and disputes over borders, governance, and security remain unresolved, contributing to a complex and often volatile situation in the region. The Palestinian authorities in Gaza, governed by Hamas, have been in a state of conflict with Israel, impacting efforts toward peace and stability.

In recent years, Gaza has faced significant hardships, including blockades and military conflicts. Accusations and investigations have pointed to Gaza being used as a base for planning various attacks against Israel. The October 7th assault, which resulted in numerous casualties, was reportedly planned by Palestinian groups operating from Gaza for over a decade.

The enduring conflict underscores the persistent challenges in achieving a lasting peace between Israeli and Palestinian populations. International efforts continue to seek pathways toward reconciliation, though deep-rooted political and security issues remain significant hurdles.
