Warner Bros. Discovery has filed a lawsuit against Midjourney, an AI image-generation company, accusing it of unauthorized use of its intellectual property. The studio alleges that Midjourney’s technology has produced numerous images that replicate characters from its vast catalog, including iconic figures such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Bugs Bunny, and Scooby-Doo.

The lawsuit asserts that Midjourney’s AI model has unlawfully utilized Warner Bros.’ copyrighted works without permission, creating a large number of derivative images that infringe on the studio’s rights. Warner Bros. claims that this activity compromises its control over its characters and intellectual property. The studio is seeking legal remedies, including damages and an injunction to prevent further use of its protected characters.

This case highlights ongoing legal debates surrounding artificial intelligence and copyright law, particularly concerning the use of copyrighted material in training datasets for AI models. As AI technology advances, disputes over intellectual property rights are expected to become more prevalent. Warner Bros. has emphasized the importance of protecting its creative assets amid this evolving landscape.
