Volkswagen has announced a delay in its plans to retool the Wolfsburg factory for the production of next-generation electric vehicles. The automaker cited budget constraints as the primary reason for the postponement, which has impacted the originally scheduled timeline for new model rollouts.

The retooling effort was part of Volkswagen’s broader strategy to expand its electric vehicle lineup and increase its share in the EV market. The delay is expected to push back the launch of the next-generation electric Golf by approximately nine months, according to company sources. This adjustment may also influence other planned EV launches associated with the Wolfsburg facility.

Volkswagen stated that the decision was made to ensure the project’s financial sustainability and quality standards. The company emphasized its ongoing commitment to electric mobility and indicated that efforts remain underway to accelerate the transition to more sustainable transportation options, despite the temporary setback.
