Two Ukrainian journalists from the TV channel FREEDOM were killed in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, after their vehicle was struck by a Russian Lancet drone. Olena Hubanova and Yevhen Karmazin, both seasoned reporters who had been covering the ongoing conflict since its outset, lost their lives in the incident.

The attack highlights the ongoing dangers faced by journalists operating in conflict zones, particularly in areas of active hostilities such as eastern Ukraine. The channel’s team has been extensively covering the war, reporting on frontline developments and civilian impacts, often at considerable personal risk.

In addition to the fatalities, another member of the channel’s staff, special correspondent Oleksandr Kolychev, was also injured in the attack. The circumstances of the drone strike are under investigation, with authorities condemning the attack and emphasizing the importance of press safety amidst the conflict.

International organizations have called for increased protections for journalists in war zones, stressing that reporters play a crucial role in delivering accurate information despite the dangers they face. The loss of Hubanova and Karmazin marks a tragic reminder of the perilous environment for media personnel covering the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
