Moldovan President Maia Sandu has condemned Russia’s actions amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In a recent statement, Sandu accused Russia of invading Ukraine, emphasizing that Ukraine is defending itself and actively engaging in a peace process brokered by the United States. She highlighted Ukraine’s efforts to seek a peaceful resolution and noted its participation in diplomatic negotiations.
Sandu criticized Russia’s approach, alleging that Moscow is undermining peace efforts through sabotage and false claims. She pointed out that Russia has continued military actions, including bombings that have resulted in civilian casualties, despite ongoing peace talks. According to her, these actions contradict the behaviors expected from a nation genuinely seeking peaceful resolutions.
The Moldovan president’s remarks come at a time of heightened international concern over the conflict’s escalation and the prospects for peace. Moldova, a neighboring country to Ukraine, has maintained a stance advocating for diplomacy and peace, urging respect for international agreements and the protection of civilians. The continued fighting and Russia’s alleged disruptions have intensified calls for renewed efforts to attain a sustainable ceasefire and long-term peace in the region.
