Ukraine has announced a leadership change within its intelligence community. Kyrylo Budanov has been replaced as the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (HUR). The government has appointed Oleh Ivashchenko to succeed him in this role.
Oleh Ivashchenko previously served as the head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service, bringing experience in international intelligence operations to his new position. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the appointment, noting Ivashchenko’s extensive background in the intelligence sector.
The transition marks a significant moment in Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its national security framework amid regional tensions. Although details about the reasons for the change have not been disclosed, the move aligns with recent administrative adjustments within Ukraine’s security agencies. Authorities have indicated that the leadership shift aims to enhance the country’s intelligence capabilities.
