In an exclusive report by Cointelegraph, David Schwartz, the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Ripple, is rallying the XRP Ledger (XRPL) validators to throw their weight behind the automated market maker (AMM) feature. However, Schwartz emphasizes that this move should only occur if a consensus emerges within the XRPL community.

Schwartz took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to initiate a conversation about the XRPL’s AMM feature, lauding it as a captivating innovation within the decentralized finance (DeFi) sphere that has been garnering significant attention.

The XRP Ledger stands as a decentralized blockchain-based ledger renowned for powering the XRP cryptocurrency. Its reputation for speed and scalability makes it a prime candidate for various financial applications, most notably cross-border payments and remittances. When asked about the timeline for implementing AMMs on the XRPL following governance voting, Schwartz revealed that with overwhelming support from the community, these changes could become reality in as little as two weeks.

Schwartz places paramount importance on achieving a majority consensus before any amendments are set in motion. He discourages validators from casting independent votes in favor of these changes. Instead, he advocates for a unified community consensus, followed by validators casting an overwhelming ‘YES’ vote when they discern that the community is in agreement and a sufficient number of nodes endorse the proposed adjustments.

The introduction of the AMM feature came bundled with the release of rippled version 1.12.0, which also introduced the potential Clawback feature. It’s worth noting that the addition of AMM goes beyond merely introducing a new trading engine; it will also facilitate integration with the XRPL Decentralized Exchange (DEX).

David Schwartz, a prominent figure renowned for his enlightening articles, remains steadfast in his commitment to advancing decentralization. Recently, he clarified misconceptions surrounding the Clawback feature, often seen as a potential intrusion on XRPL users. Schwartz made it clear that the primary objective of the Clawback feature is to shield developers from potential legal liabilities within the XRPL ecosystem. His advocacy for the XRPL’s advancement and his vocal stance on these matters continue to resonate within the community.
